The Future of Image Resizing

Raoul over at ComeAcross has posted an article about an exciting new technology on the horizon that enables the user to resize photographs using an extremely smart system.

Currently photographs are increased in size by increasing of reducing the number of pixels. All pixels are treated equally. This new content-aware system looks at the photograph, decides what is important and unimportant, and changes are made using that information. The important subjects of a photograph are prioritized, and background and large sections of similar colors are reduced in importance.

This is going to completely change the way we think about resizing images. It will be a whole new ball game. You need to watch the video below to fully appreciate how this new technology works. As you can tell from my effort, it is difficult to explain without visual aids.
