Old Aberdeen Photowalk Update

16 02 2008

High StreetDon’t forget that tomorrow, Sunday 17th February, is the Old Aberdeen Photowalk.

We will meet at the Bobbin Mill at 1pm for a bite to eat and a drink. If you’re not up for some food, we will meet at the front door of the Bobbin, and at 2pm we’ll head out and explore Old Aberdeen as well as the more modern architecture of Aberdeen University. We’ll take a walk through Seaton Park, and we may head down to the Brig O’ Balgownie. I’m told there is a troll guarding the bridge, so we may give it a miss depending on the mood of the group.

I think we will be finished about 4pm. It’s not a long walk, but I would imagine the time will be taken up looking through lenses and swapping tips.

Please don’t let lack of photography gear or knowledge stop you from coming along. This is a catch-all event, and everybody can learn something new. I’m not a great photographer myself. The reason I’m organising this is to get some tips from others.

It would be really handy if you could take a note of your Flickr/Zooomr/Ipernity pages as well as any photo blogs you have so that I can link to them in my round-up of the day for the blog. If you’re going to share your shots on a photo sharing site, please tag them with the following:

photowalk:aberdeen=20080217
upcoming:event=419110
photowalking02172008

It looks like the weather is going to be sunny, but in Aberdeen this time of year that also means cold. Dress appropriately. We don’t want anybody falling foul of the elements.

By my reckoning there should be about a dozen people coming along, which should make for some good craic. The Upcoming.org page for this event is here. It would be really helpful if you could sign up there.

See you there!

Old Aberdeen Winter Photowalk

28 01 2008

Old AberdeenI’ve been hoping somebody would organise a photowalk close to me for a while, but it turns out that if you organise something yourself, it’s more likely to happen. Who’d have thought?

We’ll meet at the Bobbin Mill pub for a bite to eat and a chat at 1pm before heading off for a photowalk round the grounds of Aberdeen University, Old Aberdeen and Seaton Park. If you’d prefer to skip food, we plan to leave the pub at 2pm.

The University of Aberdeen has some beautiful architecture dating from the 1500s to the modern day that we can spend a bit of time exploring and photographing. The cobbled streets of Old Aberdeen are well worth a visit and look great through a lens. Seaton Park, one of the cities biggest parks, is beautiful all year round, and will provide a nice contrast to all the architecture shots you’ll be taking.

This is an all-inclusive event. You don’t have to have any photography experience to take part. You don’t need the latest kit to impress. Even a disposable camera will do the job. We can all learn a little something from each other.

Please remember that this is Aberdeen in winter, so you should prepare for cold, rain, snow, wind etc. Or it might be glorious sunshine. You really never know.

I’ve created an Upcoming page for this event here, and there is a Google map of the suggested route here. Please sign up so we have some idea of numbers approaching the day. If you have any ideas or suggestions for the Photowalk, feel free to post them in the comments.

London Photowalk this Weekend

10 01 2008

Photowalking LondonThis Saturday (January 12th ‘0 8) sees the first ‘official’ London Photowalk. Meeting at The Blackfriar pub in Queen Victoria Street at 1pm for lunch, then heading out for a 3 mile Photowalk along the river Thames.

This is a wonderful route for a Photowalk, taking in some of the most iconic London landmarks.

All levels of photographer are welcome. Don’t feel you need to have the latest kit to fit in. The idea of these photowalks is so everybody of every level can learn from each other.

[UPDATE] I just received this update from Phill Price: Apologies for the late notice but TfL are fiddling around meaning that blackfriars is closed - coupled with the Flickr London covering the south bank last week - the start (and route has moved slightly). http://tinyurl.com/32j7hj

I hope you move over into the attend list - and if so I’ll see you in the ship and shovel!
